AIRBORNE RADAR SYSTEMS

descriptionThe C4ISTAR concept relies the deployment of high-performance maritime, air and ground surveillance systems.

Maritime Surveillance and Patrol systems

Thales maritime surveillance and patrol systems have been selected by a number of countries, including France, Japan, Indonesia, Turkey and Malaysia. Designed for maximum flexibility, the Amascos system meets all current and future operational requirements in search-and-rescue, EEZ surveillance, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare roles. With its modular design, Amascos accommodates a broad range of sensor types and is suitable for installation on board any type of fixed- or rotary-wing aircraft. The system is designed around an advanced tactical command subsystem with the latest generation of Thales radar, the Ocean Master, ESM, acoustic and communication systems. Amascos is part of the MELTEM system, which Thales is supplying to the Turkish Navy and Coast Guard.

Thales is also supplying the Searchwater 2000MR radar for the UK Royal Air Force|s Nimrod MRA4 programme. This radar is optimised for long-range maritime patrol and offers outstanding surface detection performance at long range as well as multiple modes including target classification, air-to-air detection and high-resolution SAR imaging.

Airborne Ground Surveillance

A comprehensive ground surveillance picture is critical to the success of both peacekeeping and warfighting missions. Building on its expertise in air-to-surface surveillance equipment and processing, Thales offers a complete family of airborne ground surveillance systems for aircraft, helicopters and UAVs. Working with EADS, Northrop Grumman and Galileo Avionica as a member of the AGSI Consortium, Thales has proposed an affordable, high-performance solution for NATO's Alliance Ground Surveillance programme, offering a mixed fleet of mid-sized jets and HALE UAVs that will create a powerful network-centric surveillance capability.

Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C)

Thales has developed a range of solutions that satisfy the full spectrum of operational requirements on AEW&C missions. The Searchwater 2000 AEW system, now in service on board the Royal Navy's Sea King Mk7 ASaC helicopter, is a lightweight system suitable for a wide range of carrier-borne fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Thales also provides a long-range mission system for fixed-wing aircraft using Ericsson Microwave Systems AB|s Erieye radar, which has been delivered to Greece.
