Jean-Yves - Human Resources

I started at Thales as a technical engineer. Five years later, a "break turn" as pilots say (my hobby is flying), and I became a hiring manager, by pure chance. I'd wanted to move over to managing people and skills, but I had no clear idea of what job that might be. The company had just signed a major export defence contract: they decided to hire large numbers, and turned to me. At first I was a bit worried, because I didn't know what I was letting myself in for. I thought about it, and took the risk, for at least one year.

Today, I am still in HR and have had experience in a number of units. It hasn't always been easy: like many others, I've had my doubts. If I've made it, it's because I have played to my strengths: knowledge of the jobs, practical understanding of the operational side, awareness of customer requirements, and a desire for action. Although my original skills are a bit rusty now, I've kept my logical engineer's way of thinking and always analysing things.

Twenty years ago, I couldn't have imagined being where I am now, in charge of professional development and mobility of senior managers, in the Corporate team. I had the luck to be in the right place at the right time. Now I think I've fully integrated the HR function with all its aspects, and my own approach.
